Working With the FastOpen - How DO I?

1. How do I save the menu that I have just created?
You can export the menu to a file from the main window. This option is available from the context menu ( right click on a menu node ) or from the main menu. You can later Import a menu from either the context menu or the main menu,
2. How do I add items to the menu?
You can add items in several ways:
- Drag & Drop from Explorer, FileQuest or the Windows desktop.
- Copy & Paste from Explorer, FileQuest or the Windows desktop.
- Select File/New and select an item
- Drag & Drop items from Explorer, FileQuest or the Windows desktop to the menu tree
- Drag & Drop items from Explorer, FileQuest or the Windows desktop to the right pane
- Select New from the FastOpen menu ( if you have selected to add this menu item )
3. How do I make sure there are no invalid entries?
There are several ways to take make there are no invalid entries:
- Select View/ Show Invalid Entries
- Open the Options dialog and switch to the General tab. Make sure 'Use bold text...' is checked. Any item that has bold text is invalid ( only in the menu tree )
- Invalid items have a special icon with an 'x' in the middle. This is both true for the menu tree and the actual menu
- Open the Options dialog and switch to the General tab. In order to be prompt by message box, make sure to check 'Display a message...'. The message box will be displayed when you select the item from the tree.
- Open the Options dialog and switch to the General tab. To get a visual clue of an invalid item, make sure 'Use Red...' is checked.
4. How do I prevent invalid entries from being added to the menu?
If you don't care if items become invalid and simply don't wish to see the items, uncheck 'Add items...' from the Menu tab in the Options dialog.
5. How do I remove any custom commands like 'New' and 'Run' from the menu?
You can remove those commands from menu from the Windows tab in the Options dialog.
6. How do I play a music file when I run an item from the menu?
You can set a default music setting for new items that you add. Open the Option dialog and select the General tab.
7. How do I play a different music file for every item?
You can further custom your menu items and have every item play a different music when selected. Select this option from the right pane in the main window .
8. How do I change the way the mouse interacts with the FastOpen tray icon?
If you wish to assign custom commands to mouse events, you can do so from the Options dialogs, Mouse tab. You can even your own commands.
9. How do I open a DOS window instead of a folder when I select it from the menu?
Several key combinations can be used when selecting a folder from the menu:
- Ctrl - Will open a DOS window with the current path already set to the folder's.
- Shift - Will open the folder in the opposite setting of the 'Always Open...' check in the Options dialog/. That is if you select to always in Explorer and you hold down the Shift key while you select the folder from the menu, it will not open in Explorer.
10. How do I open a folder sometimes in Explorer and sometimes by itself?
Use the Shift key see item 9.

12. How do I make sure I can run items from the menu after I add them?
You can test the menu in three ways:
- Double click an item in the menu tree
- Select an item from the Test menu in the main window
- Run it from the FastOpen menu after you close the main window.
